My Toner

I remembered someone told me that Toner is unnecessary and the best thing was I have trusted the person for 2 years. Over the 2 years, I had discover the changes on my skin. My pores become more visible and my skin become more oily. Why? I pondered... Later, I found out the facts of the use of Toner and Why must I use Toner?

The Facts of Toner

A skin toner is a liquid or light lotion that is used in several different applications of skin care. Of these, the most common is to use a toner, usually with witch hazel or alcohol to clean the skin and perhaps reduce oil on the skin and prevent acne breakouts. These are often called astringents.
Another type of skin toner used is called a tonic. They typically contain a smaller amount of alcohol than do astringents, but they may still have that somewhat prickly or stingy feel you note when you place alcohol on the face. They also often feel cooler than plain water. They do help clean the skin, and women or men who have combination type skin, with dry skin on the cheeks and more oily skin on the forehead and nose (called the T-zone) may prefer a tonic to an astringent.
Some skin toners contain little to no alcohol. Instead, such a toner might use citric acid, rosewater, or a variety of other ingredients to simply freshen the skin. This explains the names used for this type, fresheners or bracers. Using a small amount of acid can help give a freshening feel to the skin when fresheners or bracers are used

The common method for applying skin toner is to dab some on a cotton ball and apply it to the face. A few toners come in spray bottles and you just spritz your face with them. In most cases, you don’t have to wash off the toner, as it’s meant to be a finishing step in a skin-cleaning regimen. You should be careful when applying toner, especially any types that contain alcohol. Typically you should not apply the toner too close to the eyes. Also, if you have areas of the skin that are badly broken out, you want to dab those areas last, so you don’t transfer bacteria from one part of the skin to the other, which may possibly result in more breakouts.

My Recommendation

My current Toner OLEHENRIKSEN (Grease Relief Face Tonic) - For oily/blemish prone skin. It is a non drying antiseptic toner that minimizes pores and breakouts.

My reason for choosing OLEHENRIKSEN because of the weather in Singapore. Most combination skin users like me have the problem of feeling greasy on the surface layer of the skin but the inner layers are normally dehydrated. OLEHENRIKSEN Face Tonic helps to remove the grease on the skin and yet not feeling dry but refreshing.

My other alternatives are DR BRANDT Poreless tone - For oily/combination skin. Dr Brandt skin care is famous for Poreless and Anti-Wrinkle products. This Poreless Toner has similar effect as OLEHENRIKSEN Grease Relief Face Tonic.

MY Additional Care

Whenever I feel dehyrated, I would use Refresher to replenish my lose moisture. KIEHL'S French Rosewater without alcohol and CAUDALIE Beauty Elixir are both are highly recommendated. They can be use with and without makeup.

What is the modern day basic skin care?

When I was first introduce to skin care products. I was told that the three basic items are Cleanser, Toner and Moisturizer. But are these items enough for us if we want to look 10 years younger. Personally, I don't think so. If you ask me, I will tell you there are 5 basic items under my list.

They are 1) Cleanser 2) Exfoliant 3) Toner 4) Moisturizer 5)Sunblock

Exfoliant helps to remove dead skin at the outermost layer, leaving a more radiant skin tone. This step also helps to pevent the pores from further enlarging.

UVA rays and UVB rays are the main reason for the cause of aging. Sunblock has the added benefit over sunscreen of blocking UVA rays, in addition to UVB rays.

Laneige Star White Multi-Protector

No time to apply sun block and make-up base after your basic skin care products. Laneige Star White Multi-Protector is my saviour. The best thing is that it contains SPF40 /PA+++ that battle against skin darkening.

Laneige Sleeping Pack

Wanna to have a supple and moisture skin after you wake up from your sleep? Laneige Water Sleeping Pack Plus is the secret to it. It is a feather-light, leave-on gel mask that provide your skin with concentrated supply of moisture Skin leaving your skin lustrously revitalized the next day.

This Pack has active ingredients Vitamin E Acetate (stabilised Vitamin E) protects the skin against UV damage and environmental stresses while yeast extract Toniskin encourages the skin to mend and tone itself. Usage
Apply appropriate amount onto entire skin, avoiding eyes area.
Leave mask on for 15 ~ 20 minutes before going to sleep.
Clean face as per normal the next morning with facial cleanser, then toner.

Highly recommend for those with very dry, dehydrated & flaky skin. And also for those who needs instant hydration & glow but long lasting after result.
For men, best use aftershave session.
For intensive moisturizing & hydrating effects, apply a layer of essence of moisturizer before product.

My favourite Laneige

I always believe in finding out beauty secrets from beautiful girls. Believe me please, these girls are really particular about the products they use. How many product can make a beautiful skin even more beautiful? I remembered this young gals I met a few years ago, she has this flawess skin tone that I like. She told me the beauty secret to her nearly perfect skin, Laneige Strawberry Yogurt range.

The next moment, I find myself in this Laneige store. I was introduce to a few products and Strawberry Yogurt Peeling Gel quickly become one of my favorite. It is suitable for all skin types and this peeling gel is especially effective for my dull skin. The Strawberry Yogurt Peeling Gel with twice the yogurt extracts make my skin more nourishing. These fresh and light soft, creamy peel, contain nano-sized spheres of the enzyme Papain. These reach deep-down to bring about my long-term internal and external exfoliation, and boost skin renewal for a visibly more glowing complexion.

Its Vitamin E content (visible as tiny red granules) affords skin added protection from free-radical oxidation, while the cellulose from plant extracts assures irritation-free exfoliation as it provides nourishment for the skin.

Usage
Apply a nickel-sized amount (2cm in diameter) on clean dry face, and spread it evenly on the entire face avoiding eyes and mouth area.
Massage for 1 minute. Once the cellulose brings dead skin cells out of the skin, wash off with lukewarm water.

Recommendations
Use once or twice a week. Adjust frequency depending on skin conditions.
If you have sensitive skin, massage very gently.

My whitening range

"Inexpensive products do not mean low quality" , I always like to use whitening range facial foam/cleanser and Loreal White Perfect become my current favourite after trying it. The rich foam cleans dirt on my face with comfort feeling. Purify skin and prepare the skin for whitening as well. Everyday application could effectively remove the dead horny layer. Brightens up dull skin tone. After every application, I always feel fresher and fairer.
